ACTA ACADEMIAE ARTIUM VILNENSIS

Acta Academiae Artium Vilnensis (AAAV) is a peer-reviewed periodical issued four times a year, publishing original art historical and artistic research, reviews of publications in art history, and art history sources.

The main focus of the journal is on the history of visual arts, architecture and design, contemporary art and visual culture, as well as artistic research, but the journal may also publish research in other fields of art, sociology of culture, and philosophy, if they are relevant to the topic of a particular issue. It is one of the few peer-reviewed periodicals in art history that also contribute to the dissemination of artistic research, publishing peer-reviewed texts by artists researchers alongside scholarly articles.

The journal is published in Lithuania, so due to its geographical location and the region’s historical and cultural links, the focus of the publications is on Eastern and Central Europe. When the geographical coverage is broadened by research on the art and culture of other regions and countries, it reveals the extent to which artistic ideas and trends have spread and artistic connections were made, both in the present day and in other historical periods.

The AAAV is distinguished by the fact that all issues of the journal are thematic, focusing on a specific problem, aspect, object, sometimes an artistic field or period. The editor or group of editors responsible for a particular issue announces an open call and invites researchers specializing on the topic to submit articles. Peer-reviewed articles and artistic research shall be published in Lithuanian or English, or in exceptional cases in other languages.

AAAV has been published by the Vilnius Academy of Arts Press since 1993. In the early years, it was an irregular series of peer-reviewed publications, with both edited volumes and single-authored monographs, most of them devoted to the study of the history of Lithuanian art. Since 2002 the AAAV has been published as a peer-reviewed journal, four times a year. At the same time, the thematic and geographical scope of the published research has expanded, the editorial board has included scholars from foreign institutions, and part of the issues have begun to be published in English or in English and Lithuanian.

Articles published in AAAV are abstracted / indexed in EBSCO, Scopus and Lituanistika databases.

The publication is supported by the Research Council of Lithuania under the National Lithuanian Studies and Dissemination Programme (2016–2024), funding agreement No. S-LIP-19-25.
